The University of Veliko Tarnovo offers bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes taught in Bulgarian. Please, note: the BA programs of the Faculty of Modern Languages do not presuppose the formation of a separate group of international students. The international students enrolled in the programs attend classes together with the Bulgarian students enrolled in the program. The rest of the bachelor’s degree programs require the minimum of 5 students to start tuition. If the number of students in the respective program is below 5, no tuition is initiated for the current academicyear.

  • The language course tuition fee is deposited upon enrolment in the course;
  • Annual tuition fees are deposited in equal instalments for the first and second semester of the 2017–2018 academic year;
  • Undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students, citizens of the European Union and the European Economic Area, deposit tuition fees under the conditions and following the regulations pertaining to Bulgarian citizens (Article 95, Paragraph 9 of the Higher Education Law);

Students who have dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian, deposit half of the tuition fee defined in Article 95, Paragraph 8 of the Higher Education Law when they apply and are accepted under the conditions and following the regulations specified by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria (Article 95, Paragraph 10 of the Higher Education Law).

Important dates

Candidates who have completed their secondary education and apply for BACHELOR or MASTER should submit their documents no later than 1 October of their year of application. The University of Veliko Turnovo make their decision concerning the applicant’s admission no later than 1 November of the year of application.

Candidates who have bachelor or master degree and apply for MASTER should submit their documents no later than the beginning of the summer semester of the respective academic year. The University of Veliko Turnovo make their decision concerning the applicant’s admission within a month of the documents submission but no later than the beginning of the summer semester of the year of application.

Language studies

The University of Veliko Tunovo provides language studies and specialized training to foreign citizens who would like to study at Bulgarian universities. The curriculum is in accordance with the Bulgarian state requirements. The courses are organized by the Department for Language Teaching. Foreign citizens who speak Bulgarian language can sit for an exam without having attended language courses.

Study visa type D

Type D study visa is not required for:

  • citizens of the European Union and the European Economic Area;
  • foreign nationals – permanent residents of the Republic of Bulgaria who have applied and have been accepted under the conditions and following the regulations pertaining to Bulgarian citizens;
  • applicants with dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian;
  • applicants for part-time studies and distance learning.

The University of Veliko Turnovo sends to applicants who need type D visa the following:

  • a certificate issued by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria stating that the applicant has been accepted to study at the University of Veliko Turnovo;
  • The University’s bank account for the candidate to deposit the tuition fee per semester for their studies.
